Winning a personal injury lawsuit may well depend on the quality of your preparation. No matter how strong a case may appear on paper, if the client is not prepared for the witness stand, they will hand the opposing counsel everything they need to destroy it. Law firms dealing with high volumes of personal injury cases have a professional duty to ensure every client is deposition-ready, but navigating the logistics can be a huge challenge.
A legal services company working closely with personal injury law firms noticed this challenge repeatedly across firms and saw an opportunity to rethink how deposition preparation was being handled. They envisioned a bespoke cloud-based SaaS platform that could convert deposition preparation from an arduous, attorney-led exercise into a structured, scalable and client-driven process. They partnered with us to design and build the platform that would bring this idea to life.
One of the most burdensome and high-stakes tasks for personal injury law firms is preparing clients for their depositions. Those clients are everyday folks who, after an automobile accident, workplace injury, or medical mishap, access the legal system for the first time. They have no reference point for how confrontational a deposition can be. They are unaware that the other side's lawyer will question inconsistencies in the statement and weaken their credibility. A witness who is unprepared can undo months of legal work in one session.
Role-play has always been the answer. Lawyers meet with clients to conduct a mock deposition which includes tough questioning. The process works, but is pricey, time-consuming, and depends on the attorney’s schedule. It simply does not scale for firms with large caseloads. A client of ours that works closely with personal injury law firms had seen this challenge repeatedly across firms handling high case volumes. Attorneys needed a process that would enable them to prepare clients more consistently and efficiently without taking them away from billable work every time a deposition came up.
Our client envisioned a virtual SaaS platform where clients could simulate depositions with the help of an AI-based voice assistant acting as opposing counsel. They partnered with us to architect and build the platform, translating their industry insight into a scalable digital product. Clients can run these simulations at their convenience.
The established process of the firm was used rather than working against it. Attorneys log into the platform and set up a case profile with relevant information regarding the incident, medical records, insurance disputes and known loopholes in the client’s account. They can also outline issues within the simulation, such as discrepancies in timelines, contributory negligence concerns or questions around the severity of injuries.
Once the simulation is set, the attorney sends the client an invitation link. The client connects through a simple browser-based window with no downloads required. The AI voice assistant then conducts the deposition in real time, leveraging the case material to ask contextually accurate and probing questions capable of replicating the pressure of a real opposing counsel examination.
Everything was recorded and transcribed. Attorneys could review sessions on their own time, make notes on transcripts and flag answers needing work. They could then send annotated transcripts and recordings back to clients, giving them a clear picture of exactly where improvement was needed before the real deposition.
According to the firm, the time attorneys spend preparing for depositions has decreased and clients feel more confident as they go into the deposition. A structured digital process replaced one that previously required multiple face-to-face meetings. For a company whose reputation relies on how well prepared its clients are when it really counts, that’s not a marginal gain. It fundamentally changes how preparation gets done.
